The last of the towns we visited in Bavaria on this Alpine Road trip was Bad Tolz. It offers a picturesque setting with a rich history and Bavarian charm. The town is known for its well-preserved medieval old town featuring colourful buildings, cobblestone streets, and traditional architecture.  The Isar River runs through Bad Tolz, providing opportunities for scenic walks along its banks.
Its lovely old town has attractive frescoed houses and quaint shops. It’s a busy place on the weekends when people flock from Munich to enjoy the town’s famous ultramodern swimming complex, Alpine slide and hiking trips along the river.

Our stellplatz (camper stop) was situated right on the river within a 400-metre walk into the town. For the two days we spent on the stellplatz, we (along with others from the stellplatz) sat on the river bank and watched the river from the front window of the motorhome. It was so relaxing, and there was plenty to see as we watched the swans & ducks on the water having the occasional squabble over territories. There were plenty of people strolling past, and it was nice to see families picnicking and children splashing around in the water.

Relaxing by the river at Bad Tolz

We could only stay two nights because it was a stellplatz rather than a campsite, but we would have stayed longer if it hadn’t been a stellplatz. In addition to walking along the river and in town, we also wandered around some of the local houses, imagining living in some of the lovely houses in such a perfect setting. A beautiful country landscape opened up every now and then as we walked across the bridge and through the wooded area. There is no doubt that this is a place that needs to be revisited.

Old Town Buildings in Bad Tolz

Germany has many places with the word Bad before or in the middle of their names, such as Wiesbaden. It does not mean the town is bad. It means Spa, and it indicates there are healing springs or waters in the town, visited by those who believe in this type of natural cure for improving health.
As a result, the place gains prestige since it is distinguished as a spa.
We always use Rentalcars.com if we need to rent a car while we are away and after researching always find them the cheapest and fairest.  We combine this with Insurance4carhire  to cover us for the bits the car hire company doesn’t cover.
